When we started iPAW, we knew we wanted to broaden the definition of traditional rescue – going beyond placements to remove the barriers of ownership, provide systemic support tools and advocate for animal welfare. We were not sure how these goals would manifest, but we knew our common vision coupled with a desire to understand and mitigate underlying issues affecting animal wellbeing was a catalyst for change.
It started quickly, with transports, transitions, and vet visits, which are still very much a part of our mission. But soon, we found those unique circumstances that allowed us to reinvent our rescue services for the greatest gains. One of our shelter partners, in an underserved and under resourced area, lacked a walk-on scale that would enable accurate weight measurement – a critical component to determine medication doses. iPAW provided funds to purchase a scale for the shelter.
